Dear Colleagues,
Today we seem on the brink of a new era. Across the globe, we are experiencing more than the usual churn of events: a pandemic, horrific and heart-rending wars, and potentially existential environmental crises. Adult educators, propelled by the swirling currents may feel adrift, over their heads, or even pummeled by the challenges we face. What are we to do?
One action is to shape the future --- drafters of the Marrakech Framework for Action call for a new social contract that recognizes the key role of Adult Learning and Education in creating humanistic responses based on human rights, ethical principles, the mobilization of collective intelligence and an open dialogue informed by interdisciplinary knowledge. An outcome of UNESCO's upcoming June 2022 global conference on adult education (CONFINTEA VII), this document will establish desired adult education outcomes for the next 12 years and provide a vehicle to collaborate on goals and practices and to monitor progress.
Adult educators throughout the world have the opportunity to address the framework's key questions and set priorities by participating in this online survey until April 13 at:
https://www.uil.unesco.org/en/seventh-international-conference-adult-education/mfa
Share your perspective:
Download and read the Marrakech Framework for Action on Adult Learning and Education.
Reflect on the elements of the framework. Consider:
How do the existing elements relate to your experience?
Does it relate to your personal and/or organizational goals?
How does this framework represent your work as an adult educator?
What is missing?
How does this framework align with other policy statements, e.g., Recommendation for Adult Learning and Education (UNESCO 2015)?
Complete the survey by April 13, 2022. Please note the text box to add comments or suggestions will open after you click YES or NO, depending on the question.
Distribute the email and survey link within your professional networks as widely as possible.
Sincerely,
Wendy Griswold, Director for the Commission for International Adult Education (CIAE), American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) wgrswold@memphis.edumailto:wgrswold@memphis.edu
