Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on a few happenings...

FY22 appropriations
Another continuing resolution was passed to extend government funding until March 11. Appropriations leaders continue negotiations in order to complete a FY22 bill. CEF has learned that the chairs of the 12 House and Senate appropriations subcommittees have been given allocation totals (302b) for their bills, however, no totals have been released. It appears total defense spending is increasing by more than the 5% increase set by the National Defense Authorization Act. If the defense increase is more than 5%, it's likely that non-defense funding will be cut, meaning that education (in general) could be cut.

President's budget
The Biden administration has not yet announced when it will release its FY2023 budget request. But it will certainly be after the State of the Union Address on March 1 and likely also after March 11, the target date for Congress to act in order to keep government open.

NTIA Listening Sessions
A reminder that the listening session focused on the Digital Equity Act will be February 23 at 2:30 p.m. ET. The registration link https://ntia-gov.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItde6trDkjHbYEI8Mtg_x8yJeAOj3XJbU is now live. We encourage all NCL members to join to ensure the adult education world's voice is heard.

Happy President's Day!

Michele
